I was grateful to get to know about Dr Paul Tseng from TLC which is very pro natural and he also know ECV which is a manual procedure to turn the baby either from breech or tranverse lie to head down to enable vaginal delivery. Booked an appointment and praying that he will accept late booking. I was blown away when he asked if i would like to scan the baby which i can choose not to and he will be able to tell me my baby position and approximate weight of my baby. According to his magical touch, my baby was head down and measuring approximately 2.8kg. And true enough, after scanning, I found out that my boy decided to turn his head down at week 38+5, water level was 11cm and he's measuring 2.7kg. Everything seems fine. PHEW… What a relieve!
Weeks passed and Baby R seems to be comfortable inside my womb. Dr Paul prefer to wait out because every baby is different. They choose their own birthday. However, my husband was on leave to standby since I was week 39 and his leave was exhausted so we discussed about induction on week 42. Overdue was dreadful and tiring. Tried red raspberry tea, evening primrose oil, walking (everyday 4-5km at least), yoga, birthing ball, pineapple, curry, squats etc but it just doesn't work.
On the big day, I was inserted Cervidil (tampon alike) in the morning at 1130 in TLC clinic after being checked by Dr Paul that I'm 1cm dilated and cervix were soft. Afterward, I went for lunch with my husband. At around 1330, i started to feel my VJJ is in so much pain but no contractions yet. Reached home at 1430 and decided to take a nap. Around 1600, i got up and showered and ate something and headed to hopsital because of regular mild contraction. Upon arrival in labour ward at 1730, I was checked for cervix dilation, 1cm still.
Still can smile at the camera. LOL
Half an hour later at 1800, the cervidil make my contraction so much stronger hitting 90 at interval of 1 minute! In my heart, I was like, OMG. THIS IS IT! HE'S COMING! Breathing through it with laughing gas for 4 hours and finally nurse came in to check my dilation. I was praying. Please! at least a 5cm cuz the 1 minute interval pain is killing me. AT 2200, the nurse declare that I was still at 1cm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was totally devastated! Nurse removed the cervidil as advice by Dr Paul because the contraction was too intense and I'm not dilated. Midwife suggested me to take epidural because I was too tensed up with the contractions, thus my cervix was not dilated. After discussion with my hubby, I gave in to epidural at 2245. I thought Epidural will be my life saviour but no. My dilation is still so damn slow! At 0030 they checked me again and I was at 1.5cm =_=
Managed to catch some sleep and got up the next day morning at 0640, I was dilated to 4cm. FINALLY some progression. But, I was stucked at 4cm until afternoon 1245 and my contraction were far apart and not intense. Dr Paul advised for OXYTOCIN for induction again at 1345. But i don't care, I was numb like hell. Give me everything to get my stubborn baby boy out!
Seems like the oxytocin works better on me. At 1400, I was dilated to 5cm! Half way there now! Dr Paul came at 1545 to check on me and good news! My water bag was broke at unknown timing and I was at 7cm now!! But bad new is baby is in POSTERIOR position! Not the most optimal position for labour and often lead to c sec and more complications such as slow labour (NO WONDER!) and hard to push.
Posterior position is on the right
To feel the urge for pushing, I requested nurse to lower the dosage of epidural. At 1645, I felt the urge to push, midwife and I practiced pushing for one hour. She said every time when i take a deep breath before pushing, baby go back up again because of posterior position. She suggested for assisted delivery. I felt like gonna passed out soon because of the long pushing and agreed to it. GET ME DR PAUL NOW! (in my heart yelling..) At 1745, Dr Paul arrived and advised me to use vacuum at low suction just to turn the baby and leave it to me to push my boss out. FINALLY! 2 pushes after he turned the baby, HE'S OUT AT 1800! No episiotomy, I've only got first degree tear around 3 stitches.
Baby Raien
His vernix is literally gone and his skin were slightly crumpled and dried up because he was overdue. And he's got a cone head due to vacuum suction. (scared my hubby a lot) Other than that, he was perfectly fine and healthy :)
Imma Cone Head Man >.<
Birth plan was out from the window. From all natural to giving in everything from epidural, oxytocin, laughing gas, vacuum, Undeniably, It was a tough 24hours but it was worth it to have my sleepy head Baby R to be in my arm. Mummy love you so much. (To be honest, sometimes i miss the time when he's in my stomach for 42 weeks)
WHO DO I LOOK LIKE MORE? DADDY OR MUMMY?
ONE THING FOR SURE! IMMA SLEEPING CHAMPION LIKE DADDY.
